Minecraft Integration

The Minecraft Integration allows for Quaestor to connect to Minecraft instances and perform in-game transactions using either the Quaestor Bridge API, or through the Vault API.

Using this integration offers the following additions:

  • Guaranteed financial dupe protection

  • Full transaction transparency, including allowing players to view their in-game transactions

  • Additional layer of security using transaction business rules, to prevent impossible transaction amounts or counts

Financial Dupe Protection

Through the Hartsec Minecraft Implementation, you get the full capability of the dedicated Financial Transaction Manager backing it.

Most servers use Quaestor - a fully ACID-compliant Financial Transaction Manager, ensuring that every transaction is either fully persisted or not at all, and no response is provided to the client until said response is provided.

Quaestor is our premiere Financial Transaction Manager, meaning that it receives our full support, and you can rest knowing that it is secure from any major incidents.

Business Rules Protection

By using the full capability of Quaestor, not only are you protected from general software glitches on the financial side - by implementing business rules, you can guarantee that any malicious third-party attacks on the client (Minecraft server) end are detected and automatically blocked, preventing destruction of your in-game economy.

These protections are implemented on Quaestor's end, meaning that any transaction type, even those performed by staff, are automatically detected and blocked if they exceed your intended limits. The following is an admin command being automatically blocked:

To aid in your detection and subsequent reaction to potential incidents, these blocks are plainly logged out in the console in DEBUG. More information can be found to the exact log line after purchase with access to the Quaestor Resources page.

Hartsec support can assist you in changing your server's log level for free with every license on request.

Limit Types

All limits that Quaestor can support are valid for the Minecraft implementation. They are as follows:

  • Daily (total dollar value over the last 24 hour period)

  • Weekly (total dollar value over the last 7 day period)

  • Monthly (total dollar value over the last monthly period)

  • Yearly (total dollar value over the last 12 month period)

  • Transaction (dollar value of the transaction)

  • Balance (the balance of the sender or the recipient, as defined by the rule)

  • Count Daily (total number of transactions over the last 24 hour period)

  • Count Weekly (total number of transactions over the last 7 day period)

  • Count Monthly (total number of transactions over the last monthly period)

  • Count Yearly (total number of transactions over the last 12 month period)

  • Count Global (total number of transactions since account creation)

Customisation of these limits can be done via the Quaestor CCI, or they can otherwise be configured on request. These limits ensure that any rules that your business wants to set can be established, and your financial security maintained.

NOTE: Proper configuration of Quaestor's business rules can effectively make your environment completely secure from financial incidents. Mis-configuration can, at best, prevent in-game players from performing transactions or, at worst, prevent blocking of financial incidents. Hartsec's support are here to assist if you require aid in setting up these settings.

Player Transaction History

Using our provided solution, players can view their transaction records in-game by running the /statement command.

NOTE: The above test was done in an artificially slowed service. Requests of this type are usually completed in less than a second of the /statement command being run.

Thanks to Quaestor, we're able to dynamically stream these results in for the player, meaning they don't have to wait for a full response to be received before they can start interacting with it.

Statements provide detailed information about every transaction that the player's account has received or has performed - including a transaction ID, source and destination accounts, and the amount (including any fees incurred). These statements can be disabled by admins if desired.

Fee Support

You may desire to have certain transactions incur additional fees - such as exchange transactions between currencies, or those performed outside of the game. Quaestor fully supports adding fees onto transactions at your will, allowing you to add an additional financial faucet to prevent players from accumulating too many funds. These fees are added to an account you provide, meaning that you can keep track of every fee and do with them as you wish.

Auditability

In the event of any incident that involves the financial layer, Quaestor offers complete auditability. Every dollar is tracked both during the initial transaction and afterwards, as every transaction goes through a secondary check before it is completed.

Thanks to this, in the event of an incident in-game, every affected individual can be positively identified and every individual transaction can be refunded and rolled back with relative ease. Incidents shouldn't have to affect every player on a server, and Quaestor makes this a reality.

Vault Compatibility

Hartsec's Minecraft Integration primarily supports our own publicly available QuaestorBridgeAPI - an API that allows us to take full advantage of our Financial Transaction Managers' offerings. Most existing plugins on Minecraft do not support this however and instead support the simpler VaultAPI, and we don't intend for you to remake your entire in-game experience just to accommodate the financial layer.

To this end, we offer full VaultAPI compatibility. Any plugin that makes a financial transaction in-game will interact directly with a Trust Account that is provided during initial configuration. This Trust Account can act as a final barrier to malicious attacks against your in-game economy as the sum of all withdrawals cannot exceed the balance of this trust account.

The Trust Account requires regular funding - this can be done via the Quaestor CCI, done automatically based on the total sum of transactions and economical value, or on request to Hartsec personnel.

NOTE: As Quaestor may inadvertently slow down in-game processing if not handled properly, the Vault Compatibility Layer has the ability to "assume" the final state of certain transactions, and perform them in the background while passing back a positive response ahead of time.

If this capability is not desired, this can be disabled in-game by authorised personnel only, or can otherwise have its' parameters changed so that it will only fire for transactions below a certain amount.

Plugins using the QuaestorBridgeAPI are expected to handle transactions properly and only block if necessary, and as such are exempt to this.

Change Request Support

Have a new feature that you would like to make this perfect for your environment? Certain tiers of the Minecraft Integration allow you to request a free small Change Request, meaning that you request it and we'll make sure that our integration works for you.

All change requests are subject to approval by project management. Your free request may not necessarily be approved by Hartsec - a quote to complete the work will be offered in this case.

Hartsec may decide to make your change request available as a general offering to our other customers. This will be factored in when you are provided with a quote.

NOTE: Every license purchased corresponds to a single publicly provided IP address. Discounts can be provided for multiple instances via multiple public IP address accessing the public Quaestor node - please contact us for more details!

NOTE: This product does not come with a key to any of our Financial Transaction Managers, including Quaestor. You'll need to purchase access to one, or to the public Quaestor node prior to using this product.
