Princeps Rate Limit

The Princeps Rate Limiter extension introduces an additional check for all incoming requests to verify that they do not exceed a certain value over a period of requests per second. This extension can work alongside the Princeps API Key, Princeps IP Checker extensions or work independently to prevent potential abuse of the system.

When an incoming request is received by the application, it verifies the IP address and checks to see if the request would match or exceed a pre-set number of requests that are authorised by the system per second. If it would exceed, the request is re-checked after every second for up to 3 seconds before it is rejected.

NOTE: This extension requires access to a Redis or Valkey instance. If this extension does not have access to either one of these, it will fail to boot and will not introduce rate limits.

As an extension, this service cannot operate by itself and requires a supported Princeps application to attach to. Most Princeps applications that receive requests are supported - feel free to contact us to confirm the specific application.
